Men's Soccer Falls In Regional Championship

DUE WEST, SC -- Carolina University Men's Soccer traveled to face-off against Erskine College for the NCCAA DI South Regional Tournament. The Bruins entered the match at a perfect 4-0 and wanted to make it 5-0 to secure a bid to the NCCAA DI National Tournament. Erskine College competes in the Conference Carolinas, a NCAA DII Conference, who had moved their schedule to the spring so this served as their first game of the "season." Each team was prepared for a tough match and knew what was at stake. Erskine College struck first with a goal in the 22nd minute and took that 1-0 lead into the half. The Fleet scored again right out of the break to take a 2-0 lead. The Bruins battled but fell short for the first time this season. Erskine College won the match by a final of 3-0.

After the match Coach Golding embraced the competition. "We knew it was going to be a tough match as Erskine is a competitive NCAA DII - losing in their conference championship last season. We could have executed better, but give them credit for playing with a physical edge."

The Bruins will now wait to see if they secured an At-Large Bid to the NCCAA DI Tournament. Carolina University has an excellent resume' to be considered after an undefeated regular season including: 3 shutouts, a plus-12 scoring margin, and a challenging schedule. The NCCAA should make those decisions by Thursday, November 12th pending the completion of other Regional Tournaments.
