BREVARD, NC - The Bruins split their doubleheader on Saturday winning the first contest against Brevard College 3-2 before falling 2-3 to Guilford College.

Game 1: Brevard vs. Piedmont

The Bruins came ready to play in the first match of the day taking the first set 25-13. Hitting a .267 to the Tornados -0.129, the Bruins recorded ten kills in the set.
In the second set, the Tornados went on a 9 point run to the Bruins 3. After being down 21-14, Piedmont was able to capitalize on Brevard's errors and get the game back within 1 point (23-24), but a kill by the Tornados wrapped up the set 25-23.Â
The Bruins were able to take back set three by going on a 6-point run twice within the set. PIU recorded a game-high of 13 kills for the set. The Bruins captured the game 25- 22 before losing set four to Brevard 23-25.
It came down to the final set where the Bruins were able to steal the momentum before the switch. PIU took set 5 (15-9) and the match off a service ace from
Chelsea Edwards.

Game 1: Guilford vs. Piedmont

The Bruins played a close match against the Quackers of Guilford College, where a total of three points decided the first, third, and fourth sets. In the first set, the two were tied at 11 when the Bruins went on a 5-1 run. It was the middles
Cydne Moore and
Virgillia Jones that captured the set with four kills in 5 points.
The Quakers battled back in the second, outhitting the Bruins .250 to .130. Guilford took the set 25-18.Â
Down 20-23 in the third set, Piedmont was able to dig in and run their offense with major kills from Jones and Mastin. The Bruins won set three, 25-23.
In the fourth set, the game was back and forth, even tied at 22. Guilford won the set 25-22, pushing the Bruins into a fifth.

The Bruins put together a terrific effort in the fifth set but ultimately would fall to Guilford 9-15, after getting behind within the first couple of points.

Two of the Bruins' sophomores, Mastin and Jones, led the way in kills with 16 and 20 respectively.
Cameron Dubuc,
Alexia Infante, and Mastin led the team in digs with 14 each.
Kaylee Barriage had two service aces.

Piedmont will travel to North Carolina Wesleyan this upcoming Tuesday to face the Bishops at 6 PM.
