Bruins Suffer First Loss of the Season

ADVANCE, NC - The Piedmont International University Lady Bruins suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday night as they fell 1-0 to the Randolph College Wildcats at BB&T Soccer Park.

The game got off to a late start after an hour and twenty minutes delay for weather. In the 14th minute, a turnover from the Lady Bruins in their defensive third turned quickly into a 1-0 lead for the Wildcats slipped behind the defense and slotted past sophomore goalkeeper Ericka Washburn

The Lady Bruins would have a chance of their own in the 20th minute, as a diagonal ball from the senior midfielder, Ashli Mincey found Adellah McManus. Her left-footed half-volley sailed inches wide of the right post.

The pressure would remain throughout the game as the Lady Bruins racked up 11 shots on the night, forcing Wildcat goalkeeper Zoe Waring into four saves. Unfortunately,  the breakthrough didn't come, as Randolph was able to see it out with the lone goal.

"We are disappointed with the result tonight, but I am happy with my team," shared Head Coach Kyle Neal. "They fought for 90 minutes. I think we honestly had more of the ball than they did. We have to find a way to be more clinical in front of goal. The girls have a great spirit and are eager to get back to work."

The Lady Bruins have a quick turnaround as they continue the homestand, hosting cross-town foe Guilford College on Saturday at 2:30 PM at BB&T Soccer Park in Advance, NC.
