Lady Bruins Fall to Guilford College in OT

ADVANCE, NC - The Lady Bruins suffered a home defeat Saturday afternoon, as they were edged out by the Guilford Quakers, in extra time by a score of 3-2.

The Lady Bruins (2-2-1) found themselves trailing early in the game as one of Guilford's forwards scored in the 11th minute on an impressive long-distance strike that found the back of the net.

PIU responded immediately with forward Cierra Josey drawing the keeper out of the goal before cutting it across to Kelsie Ramirez who passed it into the net. This goal was her first of two on the day, tying the score at 1-1 on 13 minutes.

Just 5 minutes later, Ramirez would complete the double by beating multiple defenders before calmly shooting into the far post for a solo effort. This goal gave the Lady Bruins a lead that they would take into halftime.

The lead would evaporate in the 50th minute, as the Quakers were able to steer the ball into the back post. The game deadlocked once again.

Neither team would be able to find the breakthrough in regulation, but it was the Quakers who found it in the first extra-time period that would be the decider on the day.

"The result hurt today," said Head Coach Kyle Neal. "I thought we played well enough in the first half to win. I give a ton of credit to Guilford. They put us under constant pressure, and we couldn't adjust. The week of results hurt, but the girls are improving. The desire is there to compete in every game."

The Lady Bruins will take the field at home on Tuesday as they play host to Toccoa Falls at BB&T Soccer Park at 5 PM.
