ADVANCE, NC - The Piedmont International University Bruins (3-1-1) defended home field as they beat the Toccoa Falls by a score of 9-1 at on Tuesday night.
The Bruins had five goal scorers on the night. Junior forward
Brayan Gomez got it started as he steered in senior fullback
Adrian Gonzalez's cross within the first 5 minutes of the game.Â
Mario Salinas added a goal in 9th minute before senior forward
Marco Diaz made it 3-0. Diaz finished off a cross from freshman fullback
Armando Aguilera just over a half-hour into it.Â
Sophomore forward
Francisco Tapia would come on as a substitute and grab a first-half hat trick, scoring in the 38th, 42nd and 45th minutes. The last goal was a powerful right-footed drive that gave PIU a 6-0 advantage heading into halftime.Â
The second half would be more of the same, as it took just under 2 minutes for the Bruins to strike again. This time it was sophomore midfielder
Jerry Pineda curling in a left-footed shot after a nice find from freshman winger
Emmanuel Gyamfi.Â
The Eagles found their lone goal on a free kick in the 52nd minute. Piedmont found their last two late in the game courtesy of Tapia's fourth goal and sophomore forward Mike Williams' header.Â
The Bruins will look to keep their winning ways going on Friday as they travel to Greenville, SC where they will take on Bob Jones University at 8 PM.Â
