Men's Soccer Game Ends 1-1 after Two Scoreless OTs

ADVANCE, NC - Piedmont International University's men's soccer team hosted a non-conference match on Tuesday evening against St. Andrews University. The game ultimately ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of action.

Throughout the game, it was a hard-fought battle between the two defenses. Bruin's defenders Ronald Smart and Rhys Thomas were active in making vital stops and quick passes away from Bruin's territory.

A dominant performance by the goalkeeper, Jeremiah Gibbs, kept the first half and overtime minutes scoreless. Gibbs registered two saves.

During the first half, there was little offensive play as there were only a combined five shots between PIU and St. Andrews. Things slowly began to change as the Bruins' very own Armando Aquilera connected with Mario Salinas to bring the first goal of the game in the 71st minute.

Shortly after the Bruins capitalized on their goal, St. Andrews came back to break the score even with a goal of their own in the 73rd minute.

The game ultimately settled for a 1-1 tie after two scoreless overtimes.

The Bruins have an eight-day break before their next game at Montreat College, taking on the Cavaliers at 7 PM.
