PINEVILLE, NC - The Piedmont Bruins (2-1-1) grabbed another road win on Saturday as they beat Johnson and Wales University Wildcats (5-1) by a score of 3-1.
The Bruins were first on the scoresheet, as they have been in every game this season. Freshman winger
Mario Salinas got behind the Wildcat defense, before being brought down leaving sophomore forward
Francisco Tapia to finish into the empty net for the 1-0 lead in the 24 minutes.
Piedmont would remain in control of the game until a set-piece service from the Wildcats for a back post header tying the game with just under 34 minutes to play.
The response from the Bruins would be swift, answering with two quick goals to take hold of the game for good. The first came in the 61st minutes when sophomore midfielder
Jason Mejia Moreno hammered home a bouncing ball. Junior forward
Brayan Gomez would add the final goal by a powerful drive from 23 yards out that found the bottom corner of the net in the 65th minute.
Head Coach
Craig Golding was pleased saying, "it's always a hard, physical, and competitive game against Johnson and Wales, so we're happy with the result."
PIU will be back in action on Tuesday night as they come home to host Toccoa Falls at BB&T Soccer Park in Advance, NC at 7 PM.
