Lady Bruins Go Undefeated in First Matches of the Season

GREENSBORO, NC - Piedmont International University volleyball picks up its first two wins of the season on Friday, working to a 3-2 victory over Johnson University - FL and 3-0 against Hollins University. These contests were the first of four matches to be played at the Jean Lojko Invitational, with PIU participating in its third and fourth games Saturday verse Mid Atlantic Christian University and hosts Greensboro College.

Game 1: Johnson vs. Piedmont
The Bruins started off the 2019 season finishing a tight 3-2 match against Johnson University - FL, holding the lead throughout the entirety of set number five. PIU took the final set victory with junior Cydne Moore recording ten kills, five blocks, four aces in Navy & White.

After dropping the first set 25-22, PIU would come back fighting winning the second and third set 25-16 and 26-24. The Suns would go on to score the final two points in the fourth set, forcing the Bruins to a fifth set where they found a 15-6 victory

Game 2: Hollins vs. Piedmont
In the second match against Hollins University, PIU held their opponent to 25-20, 25-18, 25-18. The Bruins recorded 35 kills to their 18, hitting .125 to Hollins' -.024. Mckenzie Mastin added 9 digs and 8 kills to board.

As a team, the Bruins out-hit both teams, scoring 92 kills on 261 attempts. Eleven PIU players recorded points in Friday's matches, while freshmen Kaylee Barriage and Emma Snyder made their debuts in Navy & White.

Quick Facts:
-Senior outside Olivia Bullard delivered a team-hight of 24 kills on the afternoon, while sophomore Mckenzie Mastin tallied 21
-Senior setter Chelsea Edwards came within 69 assists in both matches
-Mckenzie Mastin, Alexia Infante, Cameron Dubuc, and Mariah Robinson gathered double-digit dig numbers: 28, 21, 21, 14
-In addition to her 12 kills, Moore finished the day with 6 aces and 6 blocks, 4 solos.
