Box Score FERRUM, VA - Piedmont International University volleyball clinches a trip to the 2019 Regionals with a 3-0 win against Ferrum College Tuesday night.
In a meeting between the Bruins and Panthers, it was PIU who made the first run of the day with a 15-7 advantage in the first set, which caused Ferrum to call a timeout.
Olivia Bullard and
Cydne Moore contributed three kills each in the first set, which helped the Bruins build a big lead. The Bruins took the first set 25-19 giving them an early 1-0 lead.
Again the Bruins came out to an early lead in the second set, leading the Panthers early 11-7.
Cameron Dubuc was electric on the back line with three aces in the second set alone, bringing the score to 17-10. The Bruins won the set 25-18 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
In set three, Ferrum kept the game close, tying up the match 5-5 and staying within a point or two of the Bruins. PIU came to life after two Ferrum errors and a kill by Bullard. After a back-and-forth battle, Piedmont was able to pull off a match win beating the Panthers 25-22 in set three.
Piedmont is back in action Saturday, November 2, at 3 and 5 PM, where they are on the road in Columbia, South Carolina, to take on Columbia International University and Reinhardt College in another weekend tri-match.
