Winston-Salem, NC -- The Piedmont Bruins (5-9) lost their early lead in the first half and were unable to recover against NCAA DII Newberry College (4-6).
The Bruins collected an early lead on the scoreboard but from the opening tip, the Wolves were all business, pushing their speed, agility, and competitiveness on PIU. The Wolves took the lead against PIU with a 13-0 run.Â
Entering the second half down by 12, the Bruins continued to compete against Newberry's height and aggressiveness under the basket. With some referee calls that didn't go in the Bruins favor, PIU lost by a score of 72-90.
Piedmont had three players in the double-digits points:
Tamir Glenn posted 21 points, followed by
China Jones with 15 and
Curtis Coleman Jr. with 14.Â
"The guys responded well." said
Josh Howard "For me to set this [rigorous] schedule and for the guys to keep competing this way, it's only setting us up for great things at the end of the season."
The Bruins will be back at home on Thursday, January 10th as they host Trinity Baptist College. The game will tip-off at 7:00 PM.
