Toccara Tatum

Coach Toccara Tatum is in her third year as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Carolina University.

Education: Tatum, a graduate of Ferrum College in Ferrum, Virginia holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. She has also earned a MAS in Sports Management with a concentration in Athletic Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. Tatum completed an internship at Wake Forest University as an Operations Intern under Coach Kendra Samuels - Eaton in 2010.

Professional: Coach Tatum has 16 years of experience coaching girls’ basketball to include:

  • 4 Years: Lexington Senior High School (Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach)
  • 2 Years: Team NC Xpress Volunteer
  • 6 Years: Winston Salem Lady Warcats (Associate Head Coach/ Director of Operations) 27-20 record with 2 National Playoff appearances in the Women’s Blue-Chip Basketball League (WBCBL)
  • 1 Year: South Asheboro Middle School (Head Coach- the Lady Comets posted a 13-4 record, completing the season with a trip to the Randolph Middle School Tournament Championship under Tatum’s reign)
  • 1 Year: Glenn High School (Head JV Girls Basketball Coach/ 10-9 Record)
  • +3 Months: Salem College (Assistant Volunteer Women’s Basketball Coach)
  • 1 Year: Parkland High School (Head JV Girls Basketball Coach)
  • 1 Year: North High School, North SC (Assistant Varsity Coach/ Head JV Girls’ Basketball Coach)

Collegiate: Tatum was a very distinguished player receiving a host of awards such as WBCA Division III All American, 2005 NCAA Division III National Assist Leader, USA South Player of the Year, and VaSID All-State Women’s Basketball First Team. In 2014, Tatum was named to the USA South 50th Anniversary Women's Basketball Team.

Semi-Pro: In 2005, Tatum was selected to play for the San Jose Spiders in the Women’s National Basketball League, but unfortunately the team/league folded prior to her first season. In 2006, she played for the Southern Legends out of Orangeburg, SC for two years before relocating to NC. In 2010, she founded the Lady Warcats in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League and played for the team for two years before becoming the Associate Head Coach/Director of Operations. Coach Tatum worked her way up the ranks and was named the Carolinas Regional Director from 2014 until 2016.

Personal: Coach Tatum is originally from North, South Carolina and resides in Winston-Salem, NC with her husband William, daughter Diamond, and son William.
