Jay Johnson is entering his third season as the Head Softball Coach at Carolina University. In the 2024 season, Johnson led the Bruins to a successful 24-20 record, guiding the team to the South Region Tournament. His positive energy and infectious attitude have been pivotal in fostering a resilient team culture.

In his first season, Johnson's leadership helped the Bruins host the NCCAA South Regional Tournament, where they advanced to the championship game. Offensively, the team excelled, finishing fourth in the NCCAA with a .334 batting average, sixth in slugging percentage (.446), and seventh in on-base percentage (.382). On the mound, Danielle Brooks led with a 2.06 ERA—ranking eighth in the NCCAA—and recorded 101 strikeouts, placing her ninth nationally. Under Johnson’s guidance, the Bruins featured four NCCAA South All-Region First Team members and two NCCAA Scholar Athletes in 2023.

Prior to joining Carolina University, Johnson had a successful tenure at Grace College as Associate Head Coach. There, he played a key role in transforming the Lancers’ offense, helping them improve from a ranking of 200th to the top twenty nationally. During his time at Grace, the team won the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament twice.

Originally from Winston-Salem, NC, Johnson earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Montreat College, where he was a two-time TVAC All-Conference player from 1992 to 1996.

With his extensive coaching experience and dedication to player development, Johnson is poised to lead the Bruins to continued success on the field.
