Trevor Kingma enters his second season as an assistant coach at Carolina University and his first as the program’s lead assistant for the 2025–2026 season.
Prior to joining the Bruins, Kingma served as an assistant coach at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, during the 2023–2024 season. That year, Ellsworth captured the NJCAA Division II Region XI Championship for the first time in 38 years, earning a trip to the NJCAA Final Four—the program’s best finish in nearly five decades. The team’s 29 victories marked the second-most in school history, and Kingma helped coach six All-Conference selections and one NJCAA All-American.
Before his time at Ellsworth, Kingma was part of the Illinois State University Men’s Basketball program as a Head Men’s Basketball Manager. During his four years with the Redbirds, he contributed to film breakdown, practice planning and execution, recruiting coordination, and game day operations. Kingma gained extensive experience working under Head Coach Dan Muller, the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year and Illinois State’s all-time winningest coach of the modern era.
During his tenure at Illinois State, Kingma also had the opportunity to work alongside notable basketball figures including Chris Duhon, former Duke University standout and 2001 NCAA Champion, and Brian Reese, a member of North Carolina’s 1993 National Championship team.
A native of Mokena, Illinois, Kingma graduated from Illinois State University in May 2023 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Management.
Since arriving at Carolina University, Kingma has played an integral role in the Bruins’ rapid rise within the NAIA and the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC). In 2024–2025, the program claimed the CAC Tournament Championship in its first season as an NAIA member, advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, and led the nation’s #1-ranked scoring defense.
