Men’s Soccer Stays Hot with Dominant 6-1 Victory Over Shaw

RALEIGH, N.C. — Carolina University Men's Soccer continued its winning ways on Friday, September 18, turning in another strong offensive performance with a 6-1 victory over Shaw University at WRAL Soccer Park.

The Bruins entered the afternoon looking to maintain their momentum and did exactly that, improving to 6-1 on the season. Carolina scored three times in each half before the match was called after 75:51 due to weather. The Bruins finished with six different goal scorers in the victory.

After a scoreless opening 30 minutes, Carolina broke through in the 34th minute. Carlos Ramirez opened the scoring at the 33:04 mark to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. Just under six minutes later, Jordan Julien converted a penalty kick to double the lead. Dominic Thieler then added another goal in the 44th minute off an assist from Louis Mould, sending Carolina into halftime with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Shaw responded quickly after halftime, scoring at 46:05 to cut the Carolina advantage to 3-1. The Bruins wasted little time answering, as Kostas Chatzikraniotis found the back of the net just 1:39 later to restore the three-goal cushion.

Carolina continued to apply pressure from there. Phil Ketzscher scored in the 53rd minute off an assist from Tlotlo Lekobane, before Lekobane added a goal of his own at 58:09 to extend the Bruins' advantage to 6-1. The match was eventually stopped at 75:51.

The Bruins' attack produced 15 shots and nine shots on goal, while Carolina held Shaw to seven total shots and four on frame. Carolina also earned a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Isaac Bunton played the opening 45 minutes in goal and made two saves without conceding, while Andre Rojas recorded one save in the second half.

Head Coach Craig Golding was pleased with the way his team handled the road contest and maintained its attacking mentality.

"I thought our guys showed a lot of maturity today. We stayed patient early, continued to create opportunities, and once we found the first goal, we did a good job of building on it. To have six different players score shows the depth and unselfishness within this group. We still have areas where we can improve, but I'm proud of the way the guys competed and continued our momentum."

With the victory, Carolina University moves to 6-1 overall and will now turn its attention to its next home contest. The Bruins will host West Virginia Tech on Saturday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m.
