Baseball Split Saturday Doubleheader at Florida National, Explode for 21 Runs in Game One

HIALEAH, Fla. — After dropping two tight contests on Friday, March 27, the Carolina University Bruins responded with a dominant offensive showing in game one of Saturday's doubleheader before falling just short in the finale, splitting the doubleheader with Florida National on Saturday.


Game 1: Carolina 21, Florida National 2

Carolina erupted for 21 runs on 19 hits, highlighted by a 15-run third inning that broke the game open early and set the tone for the day.

Daniel Isbell led the charge with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, scoring four runs, while Chandler Smithart added three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Leland Brown and Nathan Wesley each drove in three runs as the Bruins' lineup produced runs in four separate innings.

On the mound, Paxton Tucker earned the win, tossing four innings while allowing two runs and striking out five.

The Bruins carried momentum into game two, rallying for four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but Florida National responded late to walk off the nightcap in extra innings.

Leland Brown paced the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Nathan Wesley added an RBI triple during the fifth-inning surge. Ty Vespe also contributed with a run-scoring double.

Florida National tied the game in the seventh and secured the win in the eighth on a sacrifice fly following a leadoff triple.

Coach's Corner

Associate Head Coach Logan Conklin praised the team's resilience following Friday's setbacks:

"Our response in game one showed what we're capable of when we play complete baseball. We competed well throughout the day, and while we would've liked to finish the sweep, there are a lot of positives to build on heading into next week."


Up Next

Carolina University Baseball returns to action on Tuesday, March 31, traveling to Montreat College for a 3 p.m. first pitch. The Bruins will then take Easter weekend off before returning home to host Fisher College the following weekend.
