Bruins Baseball Bounce Back with Doubleheader Sweep of Kent State Tuscarawas

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After a challenging weekend against Wheeling University, the Carolina University Baseball team responded in dominant fashion Monday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Kent State Tuscarawas at Rich Park. With the two victories, the Bruins matched last season's win total of nine and improved their momentum heading into the young season.

Carolina claimed Game One in commanding style, 20-3, before securing the sweep with a 12-1 victory in Game Two.

Game One: Carolina 20, Kent State Tuscarawas 3

After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, the Bruins immediately responded with three runs in the bottom half and never looked back. Carolina plated three runs in the second, four in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth, and three more in the sixth to cap the run-rule victory.

The pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts and limited Kent State Tuscarawas to a single run in the third inning.

Following the sweep, Associate Head Coach Logan Conklin emphasized the team's response after a difficult weekend.

"I was proud of how our guys responded. After getting swept this past weekend, we challenged them to come out with energy, compete pitch-by-pitch, and play clean baseball. Today we saw the type of offense we're capable of when we stay disciplined and aggressive. Our pitching staff set the tone, and we played complete games on both sides of the ball. This is the standard we expect moving forward."

With the two wins, Carolina improves to 9-9 on the season and matches its total win output from a year ago.

The Bruins will return to action this weekend as they travel to Truett McConnell for a three-game series, beginning with a single nine-inning contest on Friday, March 6 starting at 4pm.
