Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Bruins Men’s Volleyball Battle Early, Fall to Regent

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Carolina University Men's Volleyball continues to navigate the early stages of the 2026 season, working to build cohesion and consistency as a young squad. The Bruins hosted Regent University on Saturday, February 21, inside Williams Gymnasium, falling in four sets despite a strong opening frame.

Carolina came out with energy and control, claiming the first set 25-14 behind efficient attacking and aggressive serving. Regent responded by tightening its defense and offensive rhythm, taking the next three sets 25-23, 25-22, and 25-23 to secure the match victory.

Offensively, the Bruins were led by Fritz Hall, who recorded a team-high 17 kills, while Sam Gruver added 13 kills. Keona Puchalski contributed six kills with one of the team's top hitting efficiencies, and Logan Hall added five kills and key defensive plays. Setter Jacob Grenier-Richie directed the offense with 35 assists, helping Carolina total 36 team kills on the day. Defensively, the Bruins collected 70 digs, showcasing their effort and resilience throughout the four-set battle.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Jake Boldog emphasized the growth process his team is embracing early in the year.

"This is a young group that's still learning how to play together at this level," said Boldog. "We've shown flashes of what we're capable of, especially in that first set. Now it's about putting complete matches together, trusting the system, and continuing to grow every time we step on the court."

Carolina will look to build on its early-season experiences as the Bruins return to action for an AAC Pod weekend. Men's Volleyball hosts conference play Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28, providing another opportunity to develop rhythm and compete on their home floor.

With valuable matches ahead, the Bruins remain focused on progress, chemistry, and turning early lessons into momentum as the season unfolds.
