Bruins Men’s Basketball Close Regular Season at Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Carolina University Men's Basketball team wrapped up its regular season slate on Wednesday night, February 19, falling to Georgia Gwinnett College, 94-57, at the Convocation Center.

With the loss, the Bruins conclude regular season play and now shift their focus to the upcoming Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament—hosted by Georgia Gwinnett next weekend—where Carolina will look to defend its conference tournament championship from a season ago.

Carolina (6-20, 2-3 CAC) battled early, trailing just 40-33 at halftime after shooting 42.9% from the field in the opening 20 minutes. The Bruins were sparked by Shawn Woodson, who led the team with 13 points, including three first-half three-pointers. Wai'apo Louis provided a strong lift off the bench in the second half, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.

Georgia Gwinnett (23-5, 5-0 CAC) used a high-powered second half to create separation, shooting 82.6% from the field over the final 20 minutes. The Grizzlies capitalized on transition opportunities and points off turnovers to extend their lead and secure the conference victory.

Despite the setback, Carolina enters postseason play with confidence after last season's historic run through the CAC Tournament. The Bruins captured the conference title as the No. 8 seed in 2025, completing a memorable championship run that now serves as motivation heading into this year's bracket.

"We didn't get the result we wanted tonight, but this group has shown resilience all season," said Head Coach Jake Heck. "The regular season is behind us now. What matters is how we respond. We've been in this position before, and last year we proved that once the tournament starts, anything can happen. Our focus is on preparing the right way and playing our best basketball when it matters most."

The Bruins will return to Lawrenceville next weekend for the CAC Tournament, where both the men's and women's championships will be contested. Carolina will aim to carry the lessons learned from the regular season into postseason play as they pursue back-to-back conference tournament titles.
