Men’s Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Road Contest at Voorhees

DENMARK, S.C. — The Carolina University men's basketball team continued its early-January stretch on the road Wednesday night, January 7, traveling to Voorhees University for non-conference action. Coming off two narrow losses in their previous two outings, the Bruins showed signs of turning the corner, leading at halftime, but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 69–65.

The opening half featured a back-and-forth battle with neither team able to create significant separation. Carolina found success attacking the paint and playing with poise offensively, closing the half on a strong note to take a 35–30 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Voorhees responded with increased defensive pressure and timely scoring, outpacing the Bruins 39–30 over the final 20 minutes. Carolina continued to battle down the stretch, cutting the deficit to three points in the final seconds, but clutch free throws by the Tigers sealed the outcome.

DJ Evans led all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting performance, adding six free throws and three rebounds. Julius Lymon and Tristan Kuska each chipped in eight points, while Cooper Smith added eight off the bench. Carolina shot 50 percent from the field and an impressive 50 percent from three-point range but was hindered by missed opportunities at the free-throw line, finishing 14-of-24.

Head Coach Jake Heck noted the team's progress despite the result.

"We're playing better basketball and competing for a full 40 minutes," said Heck. "These close games are tough, but they're part of the growth process. Our guys are starting to understand what it takes to win on the road, and we're right there."

Carolina will look to build on the positives from the performance as the Bruins continue their January schedule, aiming to turn close contests into victories as the season moves forward.
