LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The Carolina University women's basketball team returned to CAC play on Monday evening but ran into a hot-shooting Georgia Gwinnett squad, falling 83–43 at the Convocation Center.
Carolina stayed competitive early, trailing 23–14 after the first quarter and 43–28 at halftime, but Georgia Gwinnett used a strong third quarter and a dominant fourth to pull away and secure the win.
Angelina Jordan led the Bruins with 11 points, knocking down two three-pointers, while Dearia Page added nine points and Jakyiiah Willis chipped in six. Tynilla Simpkins and MeiLani Patterson each scored six for Carolina.
Georgia Gwinnett controlled the glass and the paint, outscoring Carolina inside and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities to extend the margin. The Grizzlies shot nearly 45 percent from the field and held Carolina to just over 20 percent shooting for the game.
Head Coach Hannah Latiolais emphasized growth despite the tough result.
"Georgia Gwinnett is a very good team, and they showed that tonight," Latiolais said. "We competed early, but we have to be more consistent on both ends of the floor for all four quarters. This group continues to work and learn, and our focus is on responding the right way as we move forward in conference play."
Carolina will look to bounce back as the Bruins continue their CAC schedule later this week as they travel down to Florida.
