Winston-Salem, N.C. — Carolina University Men's Basketball hosted a Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) pod Thursday through Saturday, January 22–24, welcoming Washington Adventist and Fisher College to Williams Gymnasium. Despite being within striking distance in both contests, the Bruins were unable to convert late opportunities, falling in two tightly contested games to open the new year.
Carolina opened the pod on Thursday night against Washington Adventist, leading at halftime before a back-and-forth second half saw the visitors escape with an 83–80 decision. The Bruins shot efficiently throughout the night and held a 44–39 advantage at the break, but Washington Adventist answered with timely shooting and free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
On Saturday, Carolina pushed Fisher College to overtime in another thriller before coming up just short, 85–84. The Bruins led by two at halftime and traded momentum throughout the second half before Fisher edged Carolina by a single point in the extra period. Carolina placed multiple players in double figures and battled on the glass, but key baskets late in overtime proved to be the difference.
Despite the results, Head Coach Jake Heck emphasized the growth and competitiveness his team continues to show.
"We're right there," Heck said. "Our guys are competing for 40 minutes and putting themselves in position to win games. The next step for us is learning how to close those moments out. I'm proud of the fight and effort, and we'll keep building from it."
Carolina remains in CAC play as the Bruins look to turn close performances into victories as the season progresses.
