Winston-Salem, N.C. — Carolina University Women's Soccer came up short in a competitive non-conference matchup Tuesday evening, dropping a 2–1 decision to Columbia International University at Truist Sports Park.
Columbia International struck first in the 15th minute when Lohrane Boaventura converted a pass from Charlotte Craver to give the Rams an early 1–0 lead. Carolina created chances late in the half but went into the break still trailing.
The Bruins pulled even in the 66th minute as sophomore midfielder Alexa Anderson scored her first goal of the season, capping off a strong spell of pressure from Carolina. However, the tie lasted less than a minute, with Boaventura answering quickly for CIU off an assist from Callie Rowe to seal the 2–1 result.
Carolina totaled eight shots on the night, including three on target, while goalkeeper Waleska Gonzalez recorded three saves in a strong performance against consistent CIU pressure.
Head Coach Boo Tesh praised his team's effort despite the result:
"I was proud of how our players fought back to level the game in the second half. We showed resilience and created opportunities, but against good teams you have to sustain focus for the full 90 minutes. Tonight gave us a lot to build on as we move forward," he said.
The Bruins (0–3–1) will look to bounce back as they travel to Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida for 7:00pm kickoff on Thursday, September 4.
