Bermuda Run, N.C. — September 15, 2025 — Carolina University Men's Soccer dropped a tightly contested non-conference match on Monday evening at Truist Sports Park, falling 1–0 to Shaw University.
The Bruins generated consistent pressure throughout the match, outshooting the Bears 18–8 and earning a 9–1 edge in corner kicks. Despite their attacking advantage, Carolina was unable to capitalize on multiple chances, including a second-half penalty attempt that was saved by Shaw's goalkeeper Joel Goerner Tellez.
The decisive moment came in the 67th minute when Shaw's Julius Jones broke through for the game's only goal. Carolina pushed forward relentlessly in the final stretch, but the Bears' defense and standout goalkeeping held firm.
Midfielder Will McCamley led the attack with six shots, including three on frame, while Lewis Jacklin added three shots. Goalkeeper Joshua Wilson recorded three saves in the net for the Bruins.
Carolina also showed resilience despite a physical match that included four yellow cards for the home side.
Head Coach Craig Golding praised his team's fight despite the outcome:
"We created plenty of opportunities tonight and showed the kind of attacking soccer we want to play. Credit to Shaw's goalkeeper—he came up with big stops in key moments. While the result is disappointing, I'm proud of the effort and know this group will learn and grow from the experience."
Carolina moves to 3–1 on the season, while Shaw improves to 1–2. The Bruins return to action Tuesday September 23, 2025 as they travel to West Virginia Tech for 1 p.m. kickoff.
