Carolina University put up a strong offensive effort but ultimately fell to Columbia International University (CIU) in a 13-9 defeat. The game featured explosive scoring early, with both teams combining for 12 runs in the first two innings.
Game Recap
The game started off strong, as CIU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Carolina responded in the bottom half with four runs of its own, capped by a two-run homer from C. Lee. The Bruins kept the momentum rolling in the second, with A. Fontanez launching a grand slam to put Carolina up 8-4.
CIU chipped away at the deficit, scoring twice in the fourth and erupting for five runs in the fifth, including home runs from B. Garland and M. Gomez, to reclaim the lead at 11-8. Carolina managed one more run in the bottom of the fifth, but the CIU bullpen shut down the Bruins' offense for the remainder of the game.
CIU added two unearned insurance runs in the eighth to seal the win, while their pitching staff held Carolina scoreless over the final four innings.
