Mocksville, NC – Carolina University Baseball hosted the Falcons of Fisher College this past weekend for a three-game series. The Bruins claimed victory in the first game but were unable to secure wins in the two Saturday matchups.
In the opening game of the series, the Bruins staged an impressive comeback to defeat the Falcons 5-4 in a nail-biting contest. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning, Alexiel Delgado's double and a home run by Robbie Smith ignited the rally. Later in the inning, Derek Martinez walked to first, and Abdiel Santa pinch-ran, stealing second, third, and eventually scoring on a throwing error to tie the game at 3-3. The Bruins added two more runs in the 7th and 8th innings, and though the Falcons answered with one run in the 9th, it wasn't enough. The Bruins held on for the 5-4 victory, with Caden Ross earning the win as the pitcher of record.
In Game 2, the Falcons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the 2nd inning, adding another run in the 3rd. The Bruins responded in the bottom of the 3rd with a home run from Garrett Axsom, who drove in 2 RBIs, closing the gap to 2-3. But the Falcons answered in the top of the 4th with 3 more runs. Axsom countered with another home run, the only run for the Bruins in the inning. After a strong rally in the 5th, where the Bruins tied the game 8-8, the Falcons pulled ahead in the 6th with 4 more runs, and the Bruins couldn't respond, ultimately falling 8-12.
In the final game of the series, the Bruins answered the Falcons' early 2-run lead with 2 runs of their own, including a home run by Paxton Tucker that drove in 2 RBIs. However, the Bruins were unable to score after the first inning, leading to a tough 2-12 loss.
The Bruins will be back in action this Tuesday, February 11th, as they take on Voorhees University in an away doubleheader at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
