Bruins Men’s Basketball Fall to Brewton-Parker in Home Rematch

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Carolina University Men's Basketball returned to Williams Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 1, looking to avenge a nine-point road loss to Brewton-Parker earlier in the season. The Bruins delivered a strong opening stretch, but a decisive late-half surge by the Barons proved too much as CU fell 84–66 at home.

The first 10 minutes of the contest featured a tightly played, back-and-forth battle. Both teams traded baskets and defensive stands as the Bruins matched the Barons possession for possession. However, with the score tied at multiple points, Brewton-Parker seized momentum and closed the half on a 23–12 run to take a 47–35 lead into the break.

Carolina continued to fight in the second half, receiving strong performances from Zay Scott (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Tristan Kuska (12 points, 8 rebounds), while DJ Evans added 11 points and helped guide the Bruins offensively. CU attacked the paint effectively—outscoring the Barons 44–46 inside—but Brewton-Parker's hot shooting night (60.7% from the field) ultimately created too much separation.

Despite the setback, Head Coach Jacob Heck praised his team's competitiveness and emphasized growth moving forward:

"We came out with the right energy and matched their toughness early," Heck said. "But against good teams, every possession matters. Brewton-Parker made a strong run to end the first half, and we couldn't quite recover. I'm proud of our group's effort, and we'll use this to get better as we move deeper into the season."

Carolina University now turns its attention as it has a week off and will be back in action Tuesday December 9, as they play host to Alice Lloyd College.
