Winston-Salem, NC- Carolina University Women's Basketball returned home to Williams Gymnasium on Saturday, December 13, for a non-conference matchup with West Virginia Tech, marking the third meeting between the two programs this season. WVU Tech, which claimed the first two matchups, completed the season sweep with a 92–67 victory over the Bruins.
After opening CAC conference play with a win earlier in the week, Carolina looked to carry momentum into the afternoon contest but found itself playing from behind early. WVU Tech built a 19–12 advantage after the first quarter and extended its lead to 42–31 at halftime behind efficient shooting and transition scoring.
The Bruins continued to battle throughout the second half, but WVU Tech maintained control by outscoring Carolina in both the third and fourth quarters. The visitors finished the game shooting over 43 percent from the field and capitalized at the free-throw line to pull away late.
Angelina Jordan led Carolina offensively with 19 points, while Dearia Page added 16 points off the bench. Maria Beltran provided a spark from the perimeter, finishing with nine points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance from the field. Carolina continued to compete on the glass and in spurts defensively, but WVU Tech's depth and pace proved decisive.
Following the game, Head Coach Hannah Latiolais emphasized the importance of continued growth as the Bruins navigate a challenging stretch of the schedule.
"We've played a tough slate of games, and while the result wasn't what we wanted today, I'm proud of our effort and the way we continue to compete," said Latiolais. "This group is learning, growing, and staying together, and that's going to be important as we move deeper into conference play."
Carolina University Women's Basketball returns to action on Thursday, December 18, hosting CAC conference opponent Georgia Gwinnett College at 1 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium. The contest will be the Bruins' final game before the Christmas break.
