BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. — November 8, 2025 — The Carolina University Women's Basketball team put together their best performance of the young season on Saturday evening but came up just short in a 91–88 road loss to Montreat College inside McAlister Gymnasium.
The Bruins displayed significant offensive improvement, led by Sy-Marieona Williams, who poured in 31 points on 11-of-26 shooting, including four three-pointers. Dearia Page added 18 points and six rebounds, while Jakyiiah Willis scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds. Aniyah Robinson contributed a double-double effort with 11 rebounds and eight points, helping Carolina to a 50–43 advantage on the boards.
Carolina played with pace and energy throughout the contest, totaling 88 points on 31.6% shooting while knocking down nine three-pointers. The Bruins also recorded 37 bench points and showed resilience after trailing by double digits in the fourth quarter, closing the game on a strong run to make it a one-possession contest in the final minute.
Head Coach Hannah Latiolais was encouraged by her team's effort and growth after the game, saying,
"I'm really proud of how our girls competed tonight. We're starting to see the pieces come together — the chemistry, the trust, the family culture we're building. Each game, we're taking a step forward, and that's exactly what this early part of the season is about."
With the loss, Carolina moves to 0–3 on the season but continues to show promise under first-year Head Coach Latiolais. The Bruins will return home for the first time this season on Tuesday, November 11, when they host Rio Grande (Ohio) for their home opener at 5 p.m. inside the Williams Gymnasium.
