Men’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker in Double Overtime in NCCAA South Region Championship

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Carolina University Men's Soccer battled for more than 100 minutes in a defensive championship showdown, but ultimately fell 1–0 in double overtime to Columbia International University on Thursday, November 13, in the NCCAA South Region Tournament Final.

The Bruins created consistent pressure throughout the match, outshooting the Rams 17–11 and producing eight shots on goal. Carolina also held a 7–5 advantage on corner kicks. Despite the offensive opportunities, the match remained scoreless through regulation and the first overtime period behind strong defensive organization and multiple key saves from goalkeeper Joshua Wilson, who finished with four stops on the night.

CIU scored the golden goal in the 101st minute when Ian Rau converted off an assist from Ive Celic, ending a hard-fought battle between two evenly matched programs.

Carolina's attack was paced by Will McCamley, Lewis Jacklin, Anton Geppert, and Karell Buitendijk, who combined for 10 of the Bruins' 17 shots. Defensively, the Bruins remained composed despite a physical match that saw multiple cautions issued to both sides.

Head Coach Craig Golding's Postgame Thoughts

"We put everything we had into this match," said Head Coach Craig Golding. "Our boys showed tremendous heart, discipline, and togetherness for 100 minutes. It's always tough to come up short in a championship match, especially in double overtime, but I couldn't be prouder of the fight and identity this group displayed. They represented Carolina University the right way all season, and this performance was no exception."

Carolina University concludes its season with an 8–6–2 record and a deep postseason run capped by an appearance in the NCCAA South Region Championship.
