Carolina University Men’s Basketball Opens 2025–26 Season with 84–74 Victory

Tristan Kuska with impressive start to Freshman campaign with 23 points 9 rebounds

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — October 23, 2025 — Carolina University Men's Basketball tipped off the 2025–26 campaign in winning fashion Thursday night, defeating Columbia International University 84–74 inside Williams Gymnasium. The victory marks a strong start for Head Coach Jake Heck and the defending CAC Tournament Champions in their home opener.

The Bruins showcased balanced scoring and composure down the stretch, overcoming a five-point halftime deficit with a dominant second half. Carolina outscored the visiting Rams 47–32 after the break, fueled by defensive stops and key free throws.

Freshman forward Tristan Kuska led the way with one rebound shy of a double-double, tallying 23 points and nine rebounds while shooting 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Jason Danso provided a spark on both ends with 15 points, seven assists, and two steals, while Deuce Ford added 14 points and nine rebounds in a steady all-around effort.

As a team, Carolina shot 44.8% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line while controlling the glass with a 48–35 rebounding advantage. The Bruins' energy in the paint and timely plays down the stretch helped them pull away in the final minutes.

Head Coach Jake Heck was pleased with the team's resilience and the tone set to begin the season:

"It's always good to start the year with a win at home," Heck said. "We showed a lot of toughness in the second half and really locked in defensively. This group is still learning how to play together, but the effort and chemistry are coming along quickly."

With the victory, Carolina University moves to 1–0 on the young season. The Bruins will now hit the road, traveling to Columbia College on October 29 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
