Baseball Concludes Season As Regional Runner-Up

Columbia, SC - Carolina University Baseball continues its pursuit of a regional title, facing off this weekend against Columbia International University and Toccoa Falls College. The Bruins were successful in making it to the championship game and fell just short of a regional title.

Game 1

The Bruins faced a tough challenge against the tournament's fifth seed, Columbia International University. Despite a slow start that saw two quick outs, Senior Bryan Deegan stepped up to the plate, launching a homer over center field and securing the first run of the game. However, the Rams quickly responded in the bottom of the 1st inning, earning two runs of their own.

Despite the Bruins' determined efforts, the Rams added one more run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Unfortunately, the Blue and Gold couldn't muster any more runs for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 1-3 loss, marking the first defeat for the Bruins in the tournament.

Despite this setback, the Bruins remain in contention in the double-elimination bracket. They still have an opportunity to reach the championship game if they can overcome Toccoa Falls.

Game 2

The Screaming Eagles of Toccoa Falls, seeded 4th, were the next opponents for the Bruins. Carolina University came out swinging, tallying 4 runs in the 1st inning.

Bryan Deegan seized the opportunity with a single, bringing in two runs and solidifying the Bruins' lead. Carolina University continued to press forward despite a couple of outs, with Jacob Ananias and Elias Nurideen adding to the scoreline.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, with the score tied at 7-7, the Bruins delivered a remarkable performance, taking the lead 12-7 by the inning's end. With a final score of 12-8 the Bruins advance to the Championship game. The Blue and Gold will need to win back-to-back games against Columbia International University to claim the title.

Game 3&4

In a crucial match up for the Regional Title, the Bruins once again squared off against the Rams of Columbia International University.

The Bruins entered the day needing to secure wins in 2 games for the Title. Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader proved to be a dominant display by the Bruins, as they overwhelmed the Rams with a commanding scoreline of 6-3. Leland Brown and Jase Brooks led the offensive charge, each contributing 2 RBIs, while Brooks also showcased stellar defense with 10 putouts.

However, the Rams fought back in the second game, shutting down the Bruins with a final score of 0-5. This defeat marked the end of Blue and Gold's postseason match up and the end of the season.

On the pitching mound for the Bruins, Jovany Mendez delivered a solid performance, recording 4 strikeouts across 6 innings. Kaleb Whitaker also contributed a strong showing, pitching 3 innings for the Blue and Gold while tallying 3 strikeouts and maintaining error-free play.
