Mars Hill, NC- Carolina University Softball battled the Lions of Mars Hill on the road Tuesday in a doubleheader. The Bruins were unable to beat the Lions in the first game finishing 0-8, but battled in the second and came home with a 12-8 win.
Game 1
The Bruins were unable to earn any runs in game 1 of the series and tallied 2 hits.
Game 2
The Bruins were able to establish a strong lead against the Lions in the 2nd game. Scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st the Bruins set the tone for the rest of the game. Grace Johnson doubled in the 1st inning and stole 3rd, Danielle Brooks singled to third base bringing Johnson home and earning herself an RBI. Grace Andrews sent a homer down the left-field line earning 2 RBIs and establishing a 3-0 lead over the Lions.
Top of the 6th senior Kourtney Cox sent a ball over the left field fences, earning the only run of the 6th. The score is now 5-4 as they head into the bottom of the 6th.
In the top of the 7th with the score tied 5-5, and 2 base runners out Kalea Bolch was able to bring both base runners home with yet another home run from the Bruins. Making it the 3rd home run of the night and taking back the lead 8-5. The Lions answered, earning 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 7th tying up the score once again 8-8.
The Bruins were determined, and in the top of the 8th, the Bruins scored 4 runs off a grand slam from Grace Johnson, bringing all 3 base runners home and sealing the victory for the Bruins.
4 Bruins had home runs, and Grace Andrews had her first home run of the season.
The Bruins tallied 12 RBIs, Grace Johnson led with 4.
Madison Hamilton, Mary Mac Miller, and Danielle Books pitched for the Bruins, with Brooks getting the win for the game.

The Lady Bruins will be back in action next Saturday as they battle Montreat College at home, for their last regular season match-up.
