Men's Soccer Dominates in Regular Season Opener

Bermuda Run, NC - Carolina University Men's Soccer (1-0) defeated Johnson University (0-1) 7-0 on Wednesday, August 23 to open the regular season.

The Bruins went ahead early thanks to a goal in the second minute from Luke Spillane-Davis, his first of two in the contest. Joining Spillane-Davis on the offensive leaderboard were Karell Buitendijk (who also scored two goals), Nathan Rue (scoring two goals of his own in addition to assisting both of Spillane-Davis' goals), and newcomer Luigi Piccoli (who scored his first goal for the Bruins).

In addition to the team's offensive success, the Bruins were impenetrable on defense, allowing zero goals on the evening.

"It was a good all-around performance from the whole team," said Head Coach Craig Golding. "It was nice to score early just to set the tone for the rest of the 90 minutes. We're just trying to take it one game at a time, and we have another tough one on Sunday."

"Today was a good performance from the team," added Buitendijk. "Obviously got the three goals early, and then the clean sheet defensively."

The Bruins travel to Emory & Henry on Sunday, August 27, for their first road test of the season.
