Sweet Briar, VA - Carolina University Softball played at Sweet Briar College on Friday, April 21st in a double-header. The Bruins didn't take long to put three runs on the board, coming out of the first inning 3-1. The scoreboard paused for three innings despite efforts from both teams. The Bruins were able to keep the bats going and scored two more runs in the final two to finish at 6-1.
The Vixens changed pace in the second game of the day and opened with 5 runs in the bottom of the first. CU was able to connect a couple hits at the plate and scored 2 more runs in the second. SBC was still hot in the second inning, scoring 4 runs to take it to 9-2. Although the Bruins scored 2 more runs in the 4th inning, it was not enough to take back the game and they finished at 4-9.
Game 1: Danielle Brooks pitched the complete game for the Bruins and claimed the win. Brooks did well on the mound all day with 6 strikeouts and only allowed one earned run. ZyMaijah Thomas did amazing at bat and went 4 of 5 with an RBI and a triple. Kourtney Cox was 2 of 3 with 3 RBIs and a double. Kalea Bolch was 1 of 2 with an RBI and a double.Â
Game 2: Kariya Proctor started on the mound and was unfortunately tagged with the loss. She was relieved by Danielle Brooks who pitched over 4 innings and recorded 2 strikeouts with no earned runs. ZyMaijah Thomas had another good game and went 2 of 4 with 2 RBIs and a triple. Kalea Bolch also did well at the plate and was 3 of 4 with 2 RBIs.Â
Carolina University Softball completed their regular season with a record of 14-14 and qualified for the NCCAA South Regional Tournament. The Bruins will host the Tournament and will play their first game Tuesday, May 2nd at 11:00 am. Please come support the Bruins on their home field!
