Columbia, SC - Carolina University Women's Basketball competed in the NCCAA South Region Tournament in Columbia, SC. The Bruins faced Paine College in the first game on Friday, March 3rd at 4:00 pm. CU started off the game strong with a 12-1 run and stayed in the lead, finishing the first quarter at 22-14. The Bruins stretched their lead up to 13 points in the second quarter at 29-16. Paine narrowed the lead and went to halftime down just 7 points at 28-35. After the break, Paine hit a 7-2 run and the scoreboard was tied up at 37-37. Paine continued to compete for the lead and CU struggled to hold them off. The Bruins came into the fourth quarter with a score of 49-46 when the momentum shifted for the Lions. CU wasn't able to get ahead and finished the game at 63-68.
Kevanika Brown led all scorers with 30 points and had 5 steals. Shantazia Gordon scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Ashley Roberts had an incredible 15 rebounds and 10 points for the team. Denasia Mitchell had 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 points.
