Winston-Salem, NC - Carolina University Men's Basketball hosted the NCCAA South Region Tournament and played in the first game against Clinton College on Friday, March 3rd at 5:00 pm. The Bruins finished their regular season at 14-12 and the Golden Bears were 20-1 on the season. The Bruins had fallen to Clinton previously in the season, but brought a new energy to the court and showed more control in the game. The teams traded baskets in the first few minutes but CU quickly hit a 8-2 run to take the lead to 17-11. The Golden Bears caught up and the teams tied at 18-18 and again at 20-20. Clinton took a 9 point lead at 37-28. The Bruins hit a 9-0 run and tied up the score at 37-37 but couldn't get ahead, going to halftime at 44-44. The second half contained the same intensity as the scoreboard was tied up multiple times. The teams tied at 72-72, but Clinton hit a 12-0 run to cut the lead. Despite strong efforts from the Bruins, they struggled to make their shots, finishing the game at 78-92.Â
Carolina U showed great teamwork in their final game. Micah Cooper finished his career strong with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists. D'Shun Edwards scored 12 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Amarie Elijah-Kirby and Vladimir Vibert each scored 10 points. Vibert and Cameron Parker each had 6 rebounds and Ethan Bell grabbed 5 for the team.Â
