EASLEY, SC -- Carolina University Baseball played #3 seed Columbia International University in the NCCAA World Series Semi Finals on Monday, May 24th. The Bruins finished Pool Play A at 3-1 and played the Rams who finished undefeated in Pool Play B. The winner of this cross-bracket matchup will move on to the Championship Game tomorrow. The Bruins were eager to get the opportunity to face an opponent that beat them twice during the regular season. However, the bats for CU got off to a slow start and CIU took advantage scoring 1 in the bottom of the second and 3 in the bottom of the fourth. Carolina University had base runners, but just couldn't convert them to runs. The Rams pulled out of reach in the bottom of the sixth and went on to win 10-0.
Lucas Shannon started on the mound for the Bruins and
Cade Fletcher adn Kobe Vanbogart were used out of the bull pen. The pitching staff combined for 5 strikeouts and only allowed 7 hits. Unfortunately, the Bruins allowed 6 walks and had 3 errors as a team that largely contributed to the 10 runs.
Bryan Deegan and
Brendan Carroll continued to contribute at the plate as each had 2 hits, including a double from Deegan.
Grant Harris went 1-3 with a double, and
John Giboyeaux went 2-3. The Bruins did have 8 hits as a team, but just couldn't string together enough to score some runs.
Carolina University finished the best season in school history in the NCCAA World Series Semi-Final round. The Bruins were 17-17 and made a great run on the national stage as they climbed from the #8 seed all the way to the final four teams standing.
