WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Men's Soccer hosted Warren Wilson College on Monday, October 18th. The Bruins had a strong crowd for their Monday night matchup and did not leave the fans disappointed. The scoring came in a flurry once the Bruins found their footing. Carolina University scored first at 22:10. The Owls were quick to answer with a goal just seconds later. However, after the 1-1 tie, Warren Wilson would not be heard from again. The Bruins scored 3 more times in the next 3 minutes and held a 4-1 lead at the half. CU would then score 4 more in the second half to put an exclamation point on the 8-1 victory.
Carolina University looked unstobbale as many players had career nights.
Francisco Tapia made all of his minutes off the bench count as he put both of his shots in the back of the net to score his third and fourth goal of the season. Additionally, he earned his second assist of the season.
Mario Salinas and
Luke Spillane-Davis each had 2 goals on the night and sit atop the season points list for the Bruins. Salinas has 7 goals on the season and 17 points. Spillane-Davis has the slight edge with 8 goals scored and 19 points. This marks the 2nd time this season that Salinas has scored multiple goals and the third such performance for Spillane-Davis.
Marcel Schlee also had a career night. The Freshman from Berlin scored his first career goal at the 59:31 mark and contributed 2 assists, which are also career firsts. All of this to not overshadow that
Nathan Rue scored his third goal of the season and has goals in back-to-back games.
The red-hot Bruins are now 7-6 after a 3-game win streak where they outscored their opponents by a combined 22-5. Carolina University will next be in action on Saturday, October 30th when they play at North Greenville University in Tigerville, SC.
