CLEMMONS, NC -Â The Bruins recorded their first two wins of the season against USC Union on Sunday (Mar. 8).
Game One
PIU took an early 3-0 lead when
Lyric Ryan,
Maggie Smith, and
Kayli Cook recorded runs. USC Union made a comeback, tying up the game in the fifth.
In the final inning, USC took the lead for the first time in the game as they scored another running, putting pressure on Piedmont.
When the Lady Bruins got up to bat,
Ralee McGee hit a long-shot double, allowing Belle Murakami to register the final winning run.
Savanna Nobles pitched the entire game, allowing 14 hits and four runs.
Game Two
In the second game, PIU got to an 0-3 start but were able to tie up the game with runs from
Maggie Smith, Murakami, and Ryan.
The team took the lead in the fourth when Jessi Grey and
Kayli Cook added to the scoreboard. Murakami recorded another game-winning run to finish off the doubleheader.
Ryan pitched the game, allowing 18 hits and five runs.
Piedmont will host Kentucky Christian University this Friday (Mar. 13) at 3 and 5 PM.
