PIU Plays Stellar Series with Johnson University - TN

MOCKSVILLE, NC - After a 14-4 loss, the Bruins came back to beat Johnson University - TN, 3-2 and 3-2 (Mar. 6 and 7).

Game One
It was a tough day on Friday for PIU Baseball, who lost 14-4 to Johnson University - TN.
The Bruins got things started in the second inning when Josh Kent singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

After the Royals scored one run in the top of the seventh, PIU answered with one of their own. Wesley Ambrose singled on the first pitch of his at-bat, scoring another. In the fifth inning, Johnson pulled away for good with seven runs.

Darin Spivey toed the rubber, going five innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, and striking out four. Will Lancaster and Zach Williams entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning, respectively.

Game Two
The second game of the series came down to the wire on Saturday, with PIU taking victory on a dramatic walk-off single in the late innings.

The Bruins got on the board in the second inning when Kevin Greenwood hit a solo homer.

The game was tied at two with the Bruins batting in the bottom of the seventh when Matt Tullock singled on a 0-1 count, allowing Brendan Carroll to run in.

The pitching was strong for both teams. Nate Williams struck out five, while Johnson's pitcher sat down five. Williams led things off on the hill. He surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.

Game Three
In the final game of the series, Piedmont defeated the Royals 3-2. 

PIU got things started in the second inning when Harrison Vaughan grounded out, scoring one run.

Charlee Edwards led things off on the pitcher's mound. He surrendered one run on six hits over five innings, striking out four. The Bruins pitcher allowed just eight hits to Johnson University.

PIU will head to Guilford College on Wednesday (Mar. 11) for a single game.
