WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Carolina University Men's Basketball Team hosted Hosanna Bible College to open their 2020-2021 season on Friday, October 23rd. The Bruins never trailed in this one and ran away with a 102-48 victory.
Kester Ofoegbu got the party started with a dunk for the Bruins' first points of the game and season.
Andrue Aguilera kept it going with a game-high 11 first half points including 3 triples. CU was able to take a 44-25 lead into the half. To start the second half,
Daniel Benjamin connected with Ofoegbu for a thunderous alley-oop. This play seemed to add another level to the Bruins as they continued to build lead as high as 55 late in the second half. Carolina University played all 15 and had 11 different players score in the win.
This was opening night for the season and Head Coach
Willie Williams' first game at the helm. Williams' was very happy for his guys; "It was great for the players and even us coaches to be a part of a basketball game again. I loved that we played with energy and supported one another tonight. It's always great to get the first one!" While it was a team effort, there were also some terrific individual performances.
Andrue Aguilera led all scorers with 22 points including 5-6 from downtown. Starting forwards
Kester Ofoegbu and
Dillon Voyles each reached double figures with 14 and 11 respectively.
Kenneth Williams Jr. and
Malik Morris provided 12 and 11 points off the bench.
Ben-ami Spence had a game high 8 rebounds to start his senior campaign. As a unit, CU assisted on 29 of 44 made field goals and shot a blistering 64.7% from the field.Â
The Bruins will be at it again on Monday, October 26th when they travel to play at Toccoa Falls College. This will be TFC's first game of the season and a good NCCAA opener for Carolina University.Â
