Men's Basketball Seals Late Victory

TOCCOA FALLS, GA -- Men's Basketball traveled to take on NCCAA foe, Toccoa Falls College, on Monday, October 26th. The Bruins struggled out of the gate and fell behind 9-4 in the early going. Aguilera helped right the ship for CU as they worked back to a modest lead of their own. Much of the first half was then back and forth, and Toccoa Falls took a 39-36 lead into halftime. The second half became a battle between the Eagles and Bruins. No team could gain an edge as each team countered the success of the other. Toccoa Falls had a 6 point lead with 6:28 remaining in the game. Coach Williams rallied the troops and began to turn defense into offense. The Bruins were able to get out in transition and quickly went on an 8-0 to regain the lead. The Eagles tried to counter with traps of their own, but the Bruins broke them and sealed the game with a late dunk from Ofoegbu and some free throws by Cooper. Carolina University earned an 81-72 victory against a very good Toccoa Falls team.

Coach Williams gave a lot of credit to TFC for challenging his group. "Toccoa Falls is a very good team led by an excellent coach. We knew this would be a battle and I'm proud of our guys for grinding this win out." The Bruins will host Toccoa Falls for a rematch on January 8th. The Bruins featured a trio of 20-point games in the victory. Andrue Aguilera, Micah Cooper, and Kester Ofoegbu carried the scoring load with 21, 26, and  22 respectively. Cooper also secured a game-high 13 rebounds.

Carolina University will travel to Montreat, NC to play the Montreat Cavaliers on Thursday, October 29th. The Cavaliers went to the NAIA National Tournament last season and are expected to challenge for the Appalachain Athletic Conference Title this season. It will be an excellent game and true test for the Bruins.
