WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Piedmont International University volleyball team dropped its crosstown match to Salem College on Tuesday evening with a score of 3-1. 

The Bruins took the opening set 27-24 with some momentum generated in the set after being down four points. The two teams played to a 13-13 tie before finding themselves tied again at 20. Two kills from Virgillia Jones polished offset one.

Salem rebounded by taking the second set 25-18 to even the match at one. Finding themselves in a 9-9 tie, the two teams would battle if out before the Salem Spirits captured the set. 

The Spirits would take the third and fourth set sealing the victory by a score of 25-17 and 25-20. 

Piedmont hit .124 on the evening, totaling 50 kills. Mckenzie Mastin and Olivia Bullard were the lone Bruins with double-digit kills (17 and 15), while Jones finished with nine. Chelsea Edwards led the team with 37 assists. Cameron Dubuc posted a team-high of 13 digs in the match while Bullard and Mastin added 12 and 10.

The Bruins are hosting their first home game of the season on Thursday (Sept. 19) at 7 PM.
