KISSIMMEE, FL - The Piedmont International University team fought hard playing with injuries, but ultimately fell 5-3 to the Robert Wesleyan Redhawks on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 3).
The game was a tale of two halves as the Bruins were able to jump to an early lead in the first half. Freshman winger
Mario Salinas picked out sophomore midfielder
Jason Mejia Moreno who converted the finish past the charging goalkeeper for the early lead in the 11th minute.
PIU would double their lead in the 23rd minutes as Salinas found freshman
Govanni Mayas just inside the box, giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead. The Redhawks would tie up the half with two goals of their own in the 30th and 34th minute.
The Redhawks gained new energy in the second half. Despite the strong resistance from the entire Bruins team, Robert Wesleyan found the back of the net in the 52nd minute.
Marco Diaz added his eighth goal of the season off a rebounded shot from
Mario Salinas, tying the game 3-3.
Robert Wesleyan would push on to take the victory in the 66th and 84th minute.
The Redhawks held the shot advantage in the game 22-16 as
Jeremiah Gibbs would register five saves in goal for the Bruins. Piedmont finishes the season 9-8-2.
