WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Piedmont International University women's volleyball team hosted its final home match with a heartbreaking 2-3 (20-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-14, 13-15) finish over the Knights of St. Andrews University. The Bruins end the regular season 15-12 overall.
After dropping the first set, Piedmont collected 25-20 wins in the second set of play before St. Andrews responded with a third set victory of its own. It was PIU that pulled out the fourth to force a deciding fifth set.
In the final set of action kills from seniors
Olivia Bullard and
Mariah Robinson tied the match at eight.
Cameron Dubuc would go on a service run with kills from
Cydne Moore and
Virgillia Jones. In the end, the Knights would side out and take the fifth.
Jones led the Bruins attack with a career-high of 21 kills and a match-high .400 hitting percentage. Bullard was close behind with 17 kills to go along with four total blocks. Edwards guided the offense with 47 assists.
Three different players tallied double-digit digs for the Bruins, led by Dubuc's 33-dig performance. Fellow senior
Daylin Schweizer followed with 14 digs, while senior Bullard had 11 digs.
Piedmont will host the NCCAA South Regional Tournament in two weeks on November 23rd. The date and time are subject to change.
