RALEIGH, NC - The Piedmont International University Lady Bruins defeated Meredith College on Monday (Nov. 25) by a score of 61-59.
Piedmont was dominant in the first half scoring 31 points and led by eight at the break. Malayah Montgomery was a catalyst for the Bruins as she made three of her seven field-goal attempts for six points. The Bruins shot 14-for-33 from the field in the half and outrebounded the Avenging Angels 22 to 19.
In the final quarter, Meredith was able to pull themselves back into the game. With five seconds on the board, the Angels tied the game up at 59. A layup by Malayah Montgomery sealed the game, ending the chance of overtime and capturing a 61-59 victory.
Malayah Montgomery led PIU in scoring with 14 points followed by senior LeOnzerrae Grubbs who also posted double-digits with 13 points.
Lenzi Brown finished with eight points and five rebounds.
The Bruins will take off for Thanksgiving break but return on Saturday, November 30 at St. Augustine's University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
