Winston-Salem, NC -- In a thrilling midweek match against Warren Wilson College (6-12), a buzzer beater 3 pointer by
Tamir Glenn allowed the Bruins (7-10) the overtime opportunity they needed.
The Bruins led the Owls for the majority of the first and second half but missed free throws down the stretch allowed the Owls to capture the lead. With 60 seconds left on the clock, the Bruins trailed by 6.
A missed free throw by the Owls gave the Bruins the one possession potential of tying up the score and forcing the game into overtime. The pressure was on the Bruins to score 3 points in 4.6 seconds.
After a timeout, called by Coach Howard,
Colton Bishop quickly passed the ball to
Tamir Glenn who had a wide open shot. Glenn's ball hit the net right before the buzzer, tying up the game.
Entering into overtime, the PIU players fed off the energy in the gym and overwhelmed the Owls in the final 5 minutes. PIU pulled off the win, 101-98.
"[This game should] give a lot of motivation to our guys to know that we can make mistakes and still win games," explained Coach Howard. "As I said, at this point in the season, that's all that matters. If we continue to play together and get these tough wins like tonight, we should be alright going into the conference tournament"
A season-high of six players scored in the double-digits on Wednesday night.
Tamir Glenn put up 21 points while
Colton Bishop,
Kendall Oliver,
Antione Robinson, and
Curtis Coleman Jr. each posted 12.
China Jones added 11 points of his own to the Bruins score.
The team will hit the road on Saturday as they take on Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 6 PM.
