Winston-Salem, NC -- The PIU Bruins battled to keep up with the Columbia International University Rams in yesterday's Labor Day match up.
Â
The Lady Bruins quickly fell behind in the match, as CIU got on the board within the first 10 minutes. Kaitlyn Hunt made some terrific saves, but PIU struggled to gain control of the field, allowing CIU to score two more times. The Lady Bruins finished the half behind CIU 0-3.
Â
PIU was able to hold the Rams down in the second half, while Hunt racked up four more saves. In the 26th minute, CIU's ball found the back of the net. Cierra Josey had a breakaway, but was unfortunately blocked by CIU's keeper. Ashli Mincey and Kelsie Simpson had a last minute attempt but couldn't add a goal of their own. The Bruins fall 0-4.
"I think our ladies work rate was commendable tonight." stated Head Coach Kyle Neal, "Credit to CIU, when we were sloppy they punished us. We didn't return the favor. But overall the effort was very good and we tried to play the right way. I thought in our new formation with no practice, Ariana Gonzalez, Candace Bell and Sydney Harris played extremely well. Josey, Mincey, and Simpson worked very hard to create chances. We just need to be more clinical."
Â
PIU is scheduled to be on the road this Wednesday against Randolph College at 5:30 PM.
