Winston-Salem, NC -- Despite a 25 point deficit, the Lady Bruins came back to defeat Virginia University of Lynchburg, 77-73, on Tuesday evening.
Malayah Montgomery,
Noni Kuumba, and
Trinity Stark put up 14 points each for the Bruins.
Alysia McLeod and
Ashley Lane posted 10 and 8 points, respectively. The team collected a total of 41 rebounds and caused UVL's 33 turnovers.
Piedmont trailed close behind the UVL Dragons for the majority of regulation until the third quarter when UVL surged ahead, pushing their lead to as great as 25 points.
With the score 41-63 going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Bruins did not lay down. A steal by
Zyniah Kesler and layup by
Ashley Lane cut the deficit to 5, 60-65.
Trinity Stark hit a three to make it a one point game with just a little over four minutes left in the game. With Kuumba on the line, the Lady Bruins earned their first lead of the night, 68-67.
The Lady Bruins' strong defense and aggressive offensive helped them finish the game on top, 77-73. The Bruins stretched their record to 4-6 on the season and 3-0 at home.
Piedmont returns to action on Monday morning at Wingate University, a NCAA DII program in the South Atlantic Conference. TIp off is set for 11 AM.
