Winston-Salem, NC - Carolina University Men's Basketball hosted their first game of the 2022-23 season against Morris College on Tuesday, November 1st at 7:00 pm. The CU Bruins were NCCAA South Regional Champions in 2021-22. Coach Jacob Heck stepped into the role as Head Coach this season following 2 seasons on Coach Williams' staff. The Bruins came out hot and scored 9 unanswered points. The Hornets didn't go away bringing the score within 7 points a couple of times in the half. However, CU finished the first 20 minutes up 43-26. After the break, there was a lot of back and forth on the court. Morris made efforts to comeback, but CU responded each time. The Bruins appeared in control throughout the half, keeping their lead by at least 10 points for the remainder of the game. Carolina University won their first game of the 22-23 campaign by a final score of 85-69.Â
The Bruins were led by newcomers, Ethan Bell and Amarie Elijah-Kirby. Bell was the lead scorer with 19 points including 5 three pointers on an efficient 7 for 12 from the field. Elijah-Kirby had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Returner, Cameron Buchanan scored 15 points on a blistering 5-11 from downtown. Coach Heck also showcased a very deep bench in the opener. Thirteen different Bruins saw the court and eleven of them scored in this dynamic offense.
Carolina University Men's Basketball is now 1-0 on the season and will head to Virginia University of Lynchburg this Saturday, November 5th to face an NCCAA Regional opponent.
